Malcolm Watkins

Mr. Malcolm M. Watkins has been appointed as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health in October 2020 and is responsible for advising the Minister on the formulation of policy in relation to the Ministry and its constituent partners, planning programmes and allocating responsibility to divisional heads; and directing the activities of the Ministry’s eight programmes. Prior to his current assignment, Mr Watkins served as the Operation Leader in Supply Chain for fortune 500 companies (such as Amazon.com and Gap Inc.) And practiced private consultancy for Supply Chain Management in the United States of America.

Throughout his career, Mr Watkins has served in serval Management and Administrative leadership positions. He has a solid background in Supply Chain Management, and an interest in serving the public sector where his skills can be utilised to promote value for money -even in resource -limited settings.

Mr Watkins begun his career in the Public Service as a Research Officer at the Georgetown Public Hospital Cooperation before his appointment to the Ministry of Health as the Director of Supply Chain – a position he held for five years before migrating to the United States in 2012.

Mr Watkins received his Masters of Organizational Leadership from the Southern New Hampshire University, Advance International Diploma in Supply Chain Management from the International Trade Center – UN, Geneva and a Bachelor of Science in International Relations from the niversity of Guyana. Additionally, Mr Watkins holds several internationally recognised certificates in Supply Chain and Operations Management.
