Chief Medical Officer of the Ministry of Health
Dr. Narine Singh is a dedicated, compassionate Obstetric/ Gynaecologist with 20+ years of experience investigating and treating obstetrics/gynaecology diseases; and has been a fully registered practitioner with the Medical Council of Guyana since 1993. He is listed as the most senior medical doctor within the public service.
Dr. Singh holds a MBBS (University of Guyana- School of Medicine), a post Graduate Certificate in Infectious Disease (University of London- School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine), MPH (University of London- School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine) and MMED Obstetrics and Gynecology (University of Guyana- School of Medicine).
During the period 1994-1995 Dr. Singh served as Regional Health Officer of Region One. From February 1995 to September 2020, he held several portfolios, such as – the Medical Superintendent at the Suddie Public Hospital; Director of National Blood Bank; Director of Regional Health Services; senior lecturer at the University of Guyana; and an Obstetric Gynecologist at GPHC; Training Coordinator in OB/GYN, MCH Dept. Ministry of Health; Maternal Mortality Reduction Focal Point – Ministry of Health.
Dr. Singh currently holds the portfolio of the Chief Medical Officer at the Ministry of Health and serves as member for several health boards across the health sector. He is also an Adjunct Associate Professor at the School of Medicine, University of Guyana and Senior Lecturer -Obstetrics and Gynecology in Texila American University.
His main area of interest is women’s health and family planning. He has been actively involved in Academia for the past several years.
He is the holder of a 2nd Dan degree black belt in karate. He also enjoys playing or watching cricket when time permits.
