Overarching Goal
Partnership with key stakeholders in health care to ensure that the delivery of services given to citizens is accessible, acceptable, timely and appropriate to meet the needs of all persons living in Guyana.

Key Objectives
1. Provide integrated health services throughout the regions. This would include providing equitable, comprehensive, and continuous health care throughout the country. One of the department’s objectives is to achieve equitable health care by filling the human resource gap that exist in the hinterland regions by continuously deploying doctors, nurses to regions 1,7,8 & 9 to serve their respective stint. Specialists would continuously be deployed as well as more services would be provided.
2. Oversee and coordinate the functioning of all Regional Health Officers in the 10 administrative regions.
3. Institutional strengthening and capacity building through training of human resources.
4. Provide for the transfer of patients from hinterland locations to Regional Hospitals and GPHC in cases of emergencies where the required medical services are unavailable.
5.  Monitoring, provision of medication, medical supplies, record keeping and reporting in all 10 administrative regions.
6.  To collaborate, co-ordinate and organize all medical outreaches across the regions.
7.  The provision of specialized care to all the Regional health facilities with the support of our international partnership with the Republic of Cuba.

Through strategic deployment of healthcare professionals, enhanced regional coordination, and robust partnerships, the department is working tirelessly to meet the objectives set out in the National Strategic Plan for Health (2021-2030). By addressing key challenges such as human resource gaps, emergency patient transfers, and outreach initiatives, the department is building a resilient healthcare system that can adapt to the diverse needs of Guyana’s population.
