In a landmark move to improve the nation’s mental health landscape, the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Office of the President and SBM Offshore, today officially launched the National Mental Health Initiatives alongside the debut of the “Health Matters” Animated Series.
These initiatives aim to strengthen mental health awareness, education, and support across Guyana. The launch reflects a nationwide commitment to breaking the stigma around mental health and ensuring that accessible, compassionate care is available to all citizens.
As part of the broader initiative, two key resources were also unveiled:
• The 915 Suicide Prevention Hotline – a 24/7 toll-free service offering immediate, confidential support to individuals in emotional distress or crisis.
• National Mental Health Website – a digital hub for information, self-help tools, access to services, and community engagement on mental well-being.
The “Mental Health Matters” Animated Series is designed to educate children and adolescents on mental health awareness.
These new tools are expected to bridge gaps in care and empower individuals to seek help without fear or judgment.
The Ministry of Health encourages all Guyanese to take advantage of these resources and join the national movement toward a healthier, more informed, and emotionally resilient society.
