The Ministry of Health has taken a major step forward in modernising Guyana’s healthcare system with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Riomed Limited to facilitate the nationwide rollout of the National Electronic Health Record (EHR) System.
The 18-month contract with Riomed Limited, a UK-registered company, is backed by USD $3.3 million in funding from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
This investment represents a critical step in Guyana’s digital healthcare transformation, aiming to enhance patient care, improve medical service efficiency, and strengthen data-driven decision-making in the health sector.
The implementation of the EHR system will redefine how patient information is recorded, stored, and accessed across healthcare facilities. By digitising medical records, the system enhance efficiency, improve patient care, strengthen coordination and support decision making.
The MOU was formally signed by RioMed Director Mario Mahamed and Permanent Secretary Malcolm Watkins, in the presence of Honourable Dr Frank Anthony, Minister of Health, Jane Miller, High Commissioner of the United Kingdom; Lorena Solorzano Salazar, IDB Representative; Robbie Rambarran, CEO of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) and other officials.
As a leader in healthcare technology solutions, Riomed Limited brings extensive expertise in developing and managing digital health systems. Their collaboration with the Government of Guyana will ensure that the EHR system is secure, scalable, and aligned with global healthcare standards.

The nationwide rollout of the EHR system will significantly enhance healthcare delivery, ensuring better access, improved service quality, and a stronger health system for all Guyanese.
