Georgetown, Guyana – 7 March – The Ministry of Health has received a massive donation of medical supplies valued at GY$ 6.5 million GY from Food For Poor Guyana to enhance maternal healthcare services at the Baramita Cottage Hospital.
This initiative supports the Government of Guyana’s commitment to improve service delivery in rural communities at primary health care levels.
The donation includes baby cots, bedside cupboards, a refrigerator, and semi-electric beds.
During the handover ceremony, Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony, expressed his gratitude to Food For The Poor Guyana, recognising their ongoing collaboration with the Regional Health Services to improve healthcare delivery.

The Minister emphasised that the donation is particularly timely as it coincides with International Women’s Day, aligning with the theme “Accelerating Impact.”
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reducing maternal deaths and improving maternal healthcare, noting that continuous investment in quality care for pregnant women is crucial.
Among those present at the donation ceremony were, Director General of the Ministry of Health, Dr Vishwa Mahadeo; Hinterland Coordinator, Michael Gouvia; Regional Health Officer, Dr Steven Cheefoon; Food for Poor Chief Executive Officer, Andrea Benjamin; and Valini Leitch Senior Project Associate.
