Earlier today, the Honourable Dr Frank Anthony, Minister of Health, welcomed a Courtesy Call at his Brickdam office from Dr Karanjit Kooner, a Glaucoma Professor from the World Eye Mission, and Dr Shailendra Sugrim, Consultant Ophthalmologist and Head of the Ophthalmology Department at Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
The discussion focused on strengthening the health sector, particularly in ophthalmology. The World Eye Mission brings ophthalmologists to host countries in which they share expertise. With this, Dr Kooner, accompanied by a team of specialists, will spend a week at GPHC delivering lectures, conducting clinics, and collaborating on glaucoma surgeries.
Additionally, the team will work with paediatric ophthalmologists on strabismus (squint) surgeries, addressing GPHC’s growing waiting list of children and adults. A neuro-ophthalmologist will also deliver lectures and run clinics.
