The Honourable Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony, delivered the keynote address at a high-level Continuing Medical Education (CME) event focused on advancements in Medical Imaging, hosted in collaboration with McMaster University at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre.

The event brought together a wide cross-section of health professionals, including radiologists, sonographers, physicians, medical technologists, and other clinical staff from across the country. The one-day intensive session offered a platform for professional development through interactive presentations, technical demonstrations, and clinical case discussions.

Key topics explored included Neuroimaging, Vascular Ultrasound Imaging, Interventional Radiology, Cardiac Imaging, and a practical overview of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and its applications in modern healthcare.

In his address, Minister Dr. Frank Anthony commended the initiative, emphasising its alignment with the Ministry of Health’s broader strategy to build human resource capacity and improve the delivery of diagnostic services across Guyana.

“We have been working on expanding access to imaging in the Regions of Guyana, with 25 digital X-ray units already distributed. As we continue to strengthen the healthcare system, we are investing in the necessary equipment to support quality service delivery,” the Minister said.

Dr Anthony also highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to establish screening and early detection programmes for key health conditions, noting that such initiatives are essential for reducing the burden of non-communicable diseases and improving population health outcomes.

He further emphasised the government’s commitment to ensuring equitable access to diagnostic imaging especially in remote and underserved areas through targeted investments in infrastructure, equipment upgrades, and training programmes for health professionals.

The Minister encouraged attendees to maximise opportunities like the CME to enhance their knowledge and clinical skills, while also sharing insights with colleagues and younger professionals to foster a culture of continuous learning and mentorship.

The event featured both local and international facilitators, who shared global best practices tailored to the Guyanese healthcare context. It concluded with a call for sustained collaboration between national stakeholders and international partners to advance diagnostic imaging and improve health outcomes for all citizens
