Minister of Health, Honourable Dr Frank Anthony, conducted a walkthrough of the newly retrofitted boiler room at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), a critical infrastructural upgrade valued at G$200 million. This major refurbishment is aimed at enhancing the efficiency and reliability of the hospital’s heating and sterilisation systems, as well as ensuring improved patient care and operational sustainability. The upgraded facility features modernised equipment designed to support the hospital’s expanding healthcare services. Speaking during the visit, Minister Anthony underscored the importance of the project, stating, “Having steam in the hospital for sterilisation is a very important thing, and if that is not working effectively, it can create problems for us in terms of infection control. So, I’m very happy that we have been able to resolve this, and we have done so in a way that provides additional capacity. Going forward, the hospital shouldn’t have any problems with steam.” He said The project is in keeping with the Guyana Government’s ongoing commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure nationwide and ensuring that hospitals are equipped with state-of-the-art technology to meet the growing needs of the population. Chairman of the GPHC Board, Dr Leslie Ramsammy and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Robni Rambaradan, accompanied the Minister on the site visit, providing insights into the improvements made and the expected impact on daily hospital operations.
