The Ministry of Health, through its Food Policy Unit, will be hosting a five-day Growth Monitoring Workshop from 8th – 12th September 2025, aimed at equipping healthcare workers with the knowledge and skills necessary to improve child health outcomes across Guyana.
A total of 37 healthcare workers are expected to participate in this training exercise, which will be rolled out in Regions 1, 4, 6, and 8 during 2025. This initiative builds on previous sessions where 128 healthcare workers from Regions 2, 3, 5, 9, and 10 were successfully trained.
The workshop seeks to:
• Improve knowledge and skills: Ensuring healthcare workers can accurately monitor and assess child growth.
• Enhance clinical practice: Strengthening the quality of growth monitoring and assessment in health facilities.
• Promote healthy growth and development: Supporting the wellbeing of children aged 0–5 years through early detection and intervention.
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
• Understand the principles of growth monitoring.
• Accurately measure and plot child growth using standardized techniques.
• Identify growth abnormalities and refer children for further evaluation when needed.
• Communicate effectively with parents and caregivers about growth monitoring results and recommendations.
The Ministry of Health remains committed to building capacity within the healthcare system to ensure that every child has the opportunity to grow and develop in good health.
