The Minister of Health, Honourable Dr Frank Anthony, attended the Dental Auxiliary Conference where he shared key initiatives targeting breast and cervical cancer.
He highlighted the importance of early detection and prevention revealing that free mammograms and HPV screenings are now accessible as the Ministry aims to achieve a 90% HPV vaccination rate among boys and girls aged 9 to 15.
“We need to pick up these cancers early to reduce complications and deaths,” Dr Anthony said underscoring the role of healthcare workers in promoting awareness.
Shifting focus to dental care, Minister Anthony spoke of major investments to elevate dental services, such as expanding Regional access and enhancing training at the Cheddie Jagan Dental School.
In details he disclosed the new technologies being introduced, such as 3D printing for same-day dental crowns which will significantly reduce wait time for patients.
“From two weeks to just 30 minutes, we are streamlining dental care with advanced technology,” he stated.
The Minister concluded by encouraging attendees to actively engage in ongoing training and to stay updated with advancements in dentistry, as the Ministry is dedicated to ensuring high-quality, accessible healthcare across Guyana.
