Honourable Dr Frank Anthony, Minister of Health this morning attended the 2nd Annual Research Day activity hosted by the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). The event saw scores of local surgeons in attendance at the one day being held at the Pegasus Corporate Suites.
While highlighting the ongoing transformational changes in health care across Guyana, Dr Anthony credited the GPHC’s Surgical Team for their leadership and innovations in advancing surgical care at Guyana’s main referral hospital.
“You (GPHC) of course are our leading hospital and you have been pioneering a number of innovations, surgeries, a number of firsts that we have seen over the last year,” he said.
He informed those present of the six new regional hospitals which will be commissioned by September this year. This he said will enable an increase in operating theatres for advanced surgical care in the various administration regions.
According to the Minister, the GPHC and other regional public health institutions will soon be transitioning from paper-based to electronic health records, a much-anticipated move to improve patient data management and continuity of care for every patient.
Dr Anthony is optimistic that Guyana’s health care will continue to grow as the future looks promising as new initiatives and international partnerships are developed to elevate the standard of care in the country.
