Minister of Health, Honourable Dr Frank Anthony, on September 25 bid farewell to the 19th team of specialist Chinese doctors who have provided vital medical services within Guyana’s healthcare system over the past year. Their efforts have significantly contributed to enhancing specialist care across the country.

The partnership between China and Guyana has seen significant progress, particularly in healthcare and the provision of specialised medical services, with Chinese medical teams visiting Guyana since 1993. The 19th Chinese Brigade has played a significant role in improving medical infrastructure in Guyana. Their contributions include constructing and renovating healthcare facilities, donating medical equipment, and collaborating with local professionals on health programmes such as outreaches, surgeries and much more. These efforts have enhanced access to modern medical care and improved healthcare quality across the country.

While delivering his keynote address, Honourable Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony, commended the Chinese Brigade for their tremendous work since arriving in Guyana.“We are very pleased with the 19th brigade, as well as all the other brigades that came before. We are extremely satisfied with the work they have done.” Dr. Frank Anthony also stated that the high quality of service provided by the Chinese Brigade has helped Guyana elevate its healthcare standards.

The Chinese Brigade was presented with certificates and a plaque in recognition of their outstanding contributions. Also present at today’s event were, Her Excellency Guo Haiyan, Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China to Guyana; Mr Robbie Rambarran, Chief Executive Officer attached to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), Dr Zho Changyong head of the 19th Chinese Brigade and other health officials.
