Medical treatment financial assistance can come in various forms depending on the specific situation and location. The Government of Guyana through the Ministry of Health currently provides financial assistance for medical treatment to eligible individuals who require services that are not available in the public health sector.
Request for financial assistance as processed through the Georgetown Public Hospital Cooperation (GPHC), our main referral institution. All request is processed based on recommendations from the medical doctors attached to the GPHC whether the patient requires care at a private medical institution in Guyana or overseas.
Financial aid is provided to patients who require medical care in the following categories:
• Cardiac- stent, battery, angiogram
• Cancer – (radiation therapy, branchy therapy), bone marrow
• Eye care- VRS, diabetic retinopathy, corneal transplant
• Imaging- MRI, MRA, MRV
• In vitro fertilisation (IVF)
• Hip replacement
• Prosthesis
• Brain surgeries
