Eye Testing and Spectacles Programme

In the delivered of Budget 2024, $1.8billion was allocated towards supporting eye care for our children in schools and adults 50 years and older. Over 205,000 school children and 76,000 pensioners are eligible for a $2,000 voucher towards the cost of an eye test. This initiative aims to identify any vision-related issues early on, ensuring timely intervention and care.

Those requiring spectacles are provided with a $15,000 voucher to off set the cost of their eyeglasses. After the eye test, if it is determined that glasses are needed, parents, guardians, and pensioners will need to visit the Ministry of Health’s Medical Treatment Department with a referral note from the optometrist and their National Identification Card to collect the voucher.

This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to promoting eye health and ensuring that every citizen has access to essential eye care services.
