- Register Medical Practitioners:
- Manage the registration of medical practitioners.
- Conduct Examinations:
- Appoint examiners and conduct examinations for aspiring medical practitioners as needed.
- Maintain Professional Standards:
- Ensure that medical practitioners uphold proper professional conduct standards and take disciplinary action when necessary.
- Advise the Minister:
- Offer advice to the Minister on medical services in Guyana and the performance of medical practitioners.
- Handle Ministerial Referrals:
- Address matters referred to it by the Minister.
- Other Functions:
- Undertake additional functions assigned by this Act or any other law.
The Council may charge fees for its services, including examinations, certificates issuance, and practitioner registration, as regulated. All expenses incurred by the Council are covered by its funds.
