The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Qatar Red Crescent Society, today officially launched the Qatar Red Crescent Medical Convoys to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, aimed at strengthening specialised healthcare delivery and advancing capacity building within the local health system.
As part of this collaborative effort, a team of nine specialist doctors from the Qatar Red Crescent Society will be conducting a series of high-level interventions and procedures at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation. The team comprises experts in:
• Pediatric Interventional Cardiology and Anesthesiology
• Obstetrics and Gynaecology (OBGYN) Oncology
• Pediatric Urology
• Catheterization (Cath) Lab Technology
During their mission, the specialists are expected to conduct:
• Approximately 16 complex pediatric urology cases
• Approximately 30 cardiac catheterization (cath) procedures—both adult and pediatric
• Approximately 12 complex gynecologic oncology cases
All medical procedures will be carried out using the necessary medical supplies and equipment provided by the Qatar Red Crescent team, ensuring smooth and efficient service delivery.
Beyond patient care, the mission also includes a roundtable discussion between representatives of the Ministry of Health, GPHC, and the Qatar delegation, focused on future collaboration, strategic health advancements, and training opportunities.
This initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance specialist medical services in Guyana while supporting training and upskilling of local healthcare professionals to ensure sustainability and long-term impact.

The launch ceremony, held at the Ministry’s Brickdam conference room, was attended by the Minister of Health, Honourable Dr Frank Anthony; His Excellency Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Rumanihi, Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of the State of Qatar to Guyana; Mr. Yousef Ahmad Y.A. Al-Mulla of the Qatar Fund for Development; His Excellency Mohammed Ahmed Al-Beshri of the Qatar Red Crescent; Dr. Robbie Rambarran, Chief Executive Officer of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC); Dr. Navindranauth, Medical Director attached to GPHC and other officials.
